Retiring AFL Star Jack Ziebell Hospitalised After Violent Assault

A retiring AFL star has been hospitalised following an alleged assault outside of a bar in Melbourne. 

In a statement to the public, Jack Ziebell’s club said he had been celebrating his final game at a bar in South Yarra with some teammates when he was approached by a group of men. 

Ziebell was then allegedly “set upon” by the men in an “unprovoked attack”.

The former AFL player was later hospitalised with serious facial injuries. 

“He suffered injuries to his face and head and needed to spend the night in hospital,” the statement read.

Ziebell is currently being treated for a broken nose and will be required to have surgery on Monday. 

The altercation is believed to have happened following an earlier confrontation inside Osbourne Bar. 

According to police, Ziebell was allegedly pushed onto the road before being struck in the face and kicked on the ground. 

The men are then alleged to have fled the scene on foot. 

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
