Report Indicates Increase In Australian Life Expectancy

The average life expectancy of the Australians has increased according to new report from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. 

A report released by the AIHW has assessed how long Australians can live with the life expectancy of the average Australian increasing by significantly over the past five decades. 

According to the data, the life expectancy of males has increased by 13.7 years (reaching 81.3) while females have increased by 11.2 years (reaching 85.4). 

The report also showed that more people are living past the age of 100 with people aged over 100-years-old now making up 1.4 percent of deaths compared to .08 percent in the 1960’s. 

It has also been documented that there were only two supercentenarian deaths (meaning people aged over 110) in the decade from 1964, which has increased to 31 in the decade from 2012. 

The report takes a look into why the average life span is increasing with experts arguing that “the maximal life span is unlimited, associated with ongoing gains in life expectancy from social and medical advances.”

Japan has seen the highest increase in women’s life spans increasing by three months every year for the past 160 years. 

The number of supercentenarians in Japan has also increased by 564 percent. 

Researchers believe this may indicate that the human life span has no limit. 

“There is no agreement on the exact limit of the human life span. Only since the 20th century has it become possible to authenticate the true age of very long-lived people, and even then, the availability of records is patchy, and validation requires meticulous investigation.”
