He was airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition but passed away later that evening.

According to a statement from the Queensland Police and Emergency Services, this has pushed the state’s road toll above last year’s total of 296.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Dan Purdie expressed his condolences to those mourning, especially at this time of year.

“No words can describe the trauma experienced by families, friends, and communities who have lost loved ones in road crashes,” he said.

“My heart goes out to all those in mourning, particularly so close to Christmas.”

Purdie highlighted the ‘Fatal Five’ behaviours that contributed to the road toll, including speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, driver fatigue, and distraction.

“We all have to do our part to ensure safety on our roads,” he added.

“Christmas and New Year should be remembered for joy, not for tragedies caused by selfishness or inattention.”

Authorities are urging all motorists to prioritise safety to prevent further loss of life on Queensland roads.
