Queensland police are set to discuss the difficulties surrounding youth crime in a documentary to be released today.

The 30-minute film has been produced by the Queensland Police Service and will focus on the “complexities” in policing youth crime.

The documentary captures a glimpse into youth crime policing over a 10 month period in Queensland.

Alongside Queensland Police and former youth offenders, representatives from the Department of Children, Multi-Cultural Affairs and Youth Justice are featured in the documentary.

Queensland Police Service Commissioner Katarina Carroll said the documentary aims to shine a light on the challenges police face amid the rising youth crime rate across the state.

“Youth crime is a challenging and complex issue for society which we know cannot be resolved overnight,” she said.

“While the documentary confronts some of the difficulties we are faced with, it also showcases amazing outcomes police, government agencies and community leaders are achieving through their work with at-risk young people.”
