Police have made an arrest in relation to the fatal shooting of underworld figure Gavin Preston, more than one month after the incident at a Melbourne café.
On Wednesday, Victoria and NSW Police executed warrants at residential properties at Bradbury, Yagoona, and Campbelltown.
A 22-year-old Bradbury man was arrested and will now be interviewed by police in relation to the shooting.
Preston and one other man were sitting outside a café in Keilor on September 9 when he was shot deal.
The second man, a 26-year-old from South Morang, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Police believe several offenders left the area in a black Audi which was later found burnt out at Blair Court, Keilor.
Detective Superintendent Janet Stevenson said it has been a “very challenging investigation” with “significant effort from Victoria Police which has been led by the Homicide Squad”.
“This is a significant arrest and an important step forward, however this investigation remains live and is far from over,” she said.
“This shooting was an extreme display of violence in a public setting and those involved had complete disregard for innocent members of the community.
“The fear that this type of offending generates along with the high risk of innocent parties being killed, seriously injured or traumatised is unacceptable and deeply concerns us.”
