Officer Who Allegedly Tasered 95-Year-Old Dementia Patient To Face Court

The officer accused of tasering a 95-year-old woman suffering from dementia is set to face court on Wednesday. 

Senior Constable Kristian James White is set to face court on multiple charges over the alleged tasering of dementia patient Clare Nowland. 

Police have charged White with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, common assault and occasioning actual bodily harm in relation to the incident.

Police were called out to the Yallambee Lodge aged care home in Cooma in May following reports one of the residents was behaving aggressively. 

Upon arriving at the scene, White found Ms Nowland holding a knife and using a walking frame and allegedly deployed a taser after she refused to drop the knife. 

The great-grandmother then collapsed and hit her head, causing a significant skull fracture. 

Ms Nowland later passed away from her injuries in hospital. 

White was suspended with pay as police continued to investigate the incident and is set to face the Cooma Local Court today.
