Off-duty Sydney cop in serious condition after alleged assault

Police are trying to piece together CCTV footage of a violent attack on two off duty police officers in Sydney’s Inner West last night.

One officer is in a serious but stable condition. Superintendent Despa Fitzgerald says it appears three unknown men were involved in a heated discussion beforehand.

“The two off duty officers were walking by and some conversation, it appears, has taken place and then the assaults on the two off duty officers has occurred,” Fitzgerald said.

Police said the two officers were walking along Enmore Road when they approached three unknown men who were having an argument.

The officers were assaulted with one of them knocked to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked in the head.

The three men ran from the scene prior to police arrival.

A crime scene was established and detectives have commenced an investigation into the incident under Strike Force Rabnor.

Police are seeking to identify three men, the first man described as being of Maori/ Pacific Islander appearance, 20-30 years old, with short curly black hair, wearing a white t-shirt, and dark blue jeans.

The second man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 20-30 years old, wearing a tan colour vest, tan colour cargo pants and black sneakers.

The third man is described as being of Maori/Pacific Islander appearance, 20-30 years old, with long brown curly hair, long sleeve black strip flannelette shirt, grey trackpants and black slides.
