Health experts are looking into a potentially toxic incident at a hospital in Sydney’s southwest.
The NSW Fire and Rescue department were called to Liverpool Hospital at around 6AM on Wednesday morning following reports of a toxic odour in the emergency department.
At least four nurses have fallen ill and the room has been evacuated.
Upon investigating the smell, firefighters discovered an issue with a sink drain through the use of chemical detectors.
Fire and Rescue teams have since declared the scene safe with plumbers repairing the sink drain.
According to Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry, nurses became unwell after an “odour or a vapour that may have caused some illness or dizziness”.
The emergency department is open and receiving patients.
