No aircrafts are landing due to the low visibility, and it is unsure when they will be able to.
Delays are expected to be felt throughout the entire day as the airport returns to schedule.
“Fog typically occurs in the morning and lifts as the day progresses, but delays can continue throughout the day. The morning peak is usually affected, so recovery of the schedule takes time,” the airport details online.
“If fog has delayed an aircraft arriving into Melbourne that may result in a delayed departure.
“On a typical day, roughly 60 per cent of all Australian domestic aircraft pass through Melbourne Airport before lunchtime, so delays to operations can have a ripple effect across the country.”
Melbourne Airport said travellers should check with their airlines for any flight details.
