Upon arrival, South Australia Police discovered the body of a 39-year-old woman from Encounter Bay inside the home.
A 40-year-old Morphett Vale man, known to the victim, was taken into custody and charged with murder.
The suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending legal proceedings, was denied bail and is scheduled to appear at the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.
Georgi Mew, a neighbour who witnessed the police presence, told ABC that she thought the incident was a “drug bust”.
“We thought it was a drug bust or something like that. You don’t expect that your next-door neighbour has murdered somebody,” she said.
“When you actually find out what’s going on, you watch your neighbour be handcuffed and taken away, it’s quite scary. We really feel for the young woman’s family. It’s really tragic for them.”
On Monday morning, detectives returned to the scene to gather more evidence, searching inside a car parked in front of the house.
The South Australia Police have urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
