A full investigation has been established following the shooting death of a First Nations man by police in Queensland.
Police were called to the scene in Grange following reports a man was allegedly attempting to stab his father with a knife at around 2:15PM on Sunday.
Upon arriving at the scene, police alleged the man “lunged” at officers with the weapon before a police officer discharged several shots.
“Upon their arrival they noticed that a man had actually been stabbed in the left hand, it was quite a deep laceration and also suffered an injury to his left shoulder,” Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said.
“[He] lunged at police with what we believe is a knife, which resulted in an officer discharging three shots.”
A man in his 50’s is currently being treated for stab wounds at Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital and is believed to be in stable condition.
A crime scene has been established at the Grange address with police focusing on an area under the home.
Footage from the police officer’s body cam is currently being assessed as part of the ongoing investigation.
