Kim Kardashian confronts “grandpa robbers” in Paris heist trial

Kim Kardashian is continuing to give evidence in Paris today about being robbed at gunpoint at a luxury hotel apartment in the city in 2016.

Kardashian was in tears as she told the court about the gunmen bursting into her room while she was in bed during Paris Fashion Week, and thinking she was going to be raped and shot dead.

She said she thought at first it was some kind of terror attack, not realising the men were there to steal millions of dollars’ worth of her jewellery.

“I absolutely thought I was going to die,” Kim Kardashian told the court.

Kardashian said one man shouted, “ring, ring”, and pointed to his finger to gesture her diamond engagement ring.

The trial takes place nearly a decade after the group, nicknamed the “grandpa robbers”, allegedly carried out the heist.

Prosecutors say the men posed as police officers to enter the luxury hotel, threatened hotel concierge at gunpoint and were then led to Kardashian’s suite in masks.

The men then tied her up, taped her mouth and carried her to the bathroom while they robbed her room.

The suspects are mainly men in their 60s and 70s with criminal records. They have been on trial since 2016, with two of them confessing to date.

One of the suspects instead wrote a book called I kidnapped Kim Kardashian in 2021. In the book he detailed being recruited to carry out the robbery of a rapper’s wife, and learnt who it would be the morning of.

In court, a 69-year-old defendant read out a letter of apology.

“I forgive you,” Kim Kardashian said, looking at the suspect.

“But it doesn’t change the feelings and the trauma and the fact that my life was forever changed. But I do appreciate the letter, thank you.”

The trial began Tuesday, Paris time and will continue to hear evidence from Kim Kardashian today.
