US Vice-President Kamala Harris clashed with Republican Donald Trump in a fiery presidential debate two months ahead of the 2024 US election.
Trump has been slammed for his comments about immigrants, “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats,” said Trump.
“They’re eating the pets of the people that live there.”
Reuters has previously reported that studies and think tanks have shown immigrants in America do not commit crimes at a higher rate than people born there.
This was Harris and Trump’s first time meeting. Harris reportedly strode across the stage and introduced herself. Presidential candidates haven’t shaken hands during a debate since 2016.
Kamala stirred the room when she referred to the Trump rally crowds.
“I’m going to actually do something really unusual, and I’m going to invite you to attend one of Donald Trump’s rallies, because it’s a really interesting thing to watch,” she said.
“People start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom.”
