Jess Fox has claimed her second Paris Olympic gold medal following a superb C1 final race on day five.
Even with a two second penalty added to her final time, Fox etched her way past Germany’s Elena Lilik time of 103.54 to finish with a time of 101.06.
The United States’ Evy Leibfarth finished with bronze with a time of 109.95.
The win defends her C1 gold from Tokyo – Fox’s first gold, and coincides with her kayak (K1) gold at Paris.
Previously, she had earned two bronze and a silver in the Kayak events at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympics.
“The Tokyo experience was so special because it was that first Olympic gold medal,” she said of breaking through after winning two bronzes and a silver in the kayak in 2012, 2016 and 2021.
“But [Tokyo] was mostly relief that I felt — it was like this sick feeling that turned into relief — whereas today was just pure joy.”
Fox’s parents, Richard and Myriam were left lost for words following their daughter’s performance.
“In the sport of canoe slalom, she won’t be beaten by anybody any time soon,” Myriam told Nine.
“The women are the ones that do the double category [kayak and canoe], you won’t see a lot of guys with double category.
“Extremely proud of what she delivered today because that was the mental effort more than anything else.”
