Jakara Anthony gold medal win at the Winter Olympics last week got us wondering: What drew the 23-year-old, raised in tropical Cairns to one of the most obscure and difficult sports out there – Moguls skiing?
Mogul consists of one timed run of free skiing on a steep, heavily mogul course, with tight turns, jumps, aerial moves and not to mention, intense speed. In short – you need nerves of steel for it.
As kids, Jakara’s parents took her and her brother to Victoria’s snowy Mount Buller regularly for the Winter season. It was here where she enrolled in skiing school and her journey to Olympic glory began.
“It’s a pretty indescribable feeling. I still can’t form the words….it’s just the most incredible experience to live out my childhood dreams, something so special and not something many people get an opportunity to do.”
Jakara Anthony describes the moment she won Gold at the 2022 Winter Olympics
On today’s Briefing, Jakara takes us through that journey, the challenges, the sacrifices and the incredible feeling she’s constantly chasing on that slope!
