Victoria is on the verge of a new political era as Premier Daniel Andrews is set to step down from both his premiership and his seat as the member for Mulgrave.
This momentous announcement has led to speculation about who will take the reins, with Jacinta Allan widely regarded as the favourite to become the next premier.

Daniel Andrews formally announced his impending resignation yesterday at 5pm.
“The moment you are thinking about what you’re going to do next, what life would be like if you were not in this role, you owe it to the people you love, you owe it to the people you serve and, frankly, you owe it to yourself to make the difficult but important decision to move on,” he said.
Praising Andrews, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described him as a leader with deep convictions, great compassion, and unwavering determination.
The next premier of Victoria is expected to be chosen by around 70 Labor state MPs during a caucus meeting on Wednesday.
While Jacinta Allan is expected to be elected unopposed, party rules could delay the official announcement for up to three business days.
To overcome this, there is speculation about appointing an interim acting premier, potentially Tim Pallas, during this transitional period.
Ms Allan confirmed her candidacy for the leadership and expressed her commitment to continue the work of the Labor government.
While the deputy leadership position remains uncertain, it could become a closely contested vote among MPs, possibly taking place on a later date.
