Israel blocks entry of all humanitarian aid into Gaza

Israel has shut off all humanitarian supplies entering Gaza. The move comes just hours after Hamas rejected a supposed US proposal.

Israel backed the US proposal to extend the first phase of the ceasefire, which ended on Saturday after six weeks.

According to Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, the extension of the first phase would run through Ramadan and Passover.

The first phase would be set to end on April 20, with half of the remaining hostages, living and dead, to be released.

The two sides have yet to negotiate the second phase of the ceasefire. The second phase was originally meant to involve Hamas releasing remaining hostages in return for Israel pulling out of gaza.

Thirty-three Israeli hostages have already been exchanged for just under two thousand Palestinian prisoners.

It is believed twenty-four Israeli hostages are still alive in Gaza, with another thirty nine presumed dead.

The Israeli PM’s office has also warned of “additional consequences” if Hamas continues to refuse the proposal.

A statement from Hamas has branded the suspension of aid “cheap blackmail,” following a breakdown in talks in Cairo.

While the first phase of the ceasefire brought more aid into the region, Gaza continues to suffer through a shortage of food, water and shelter.
