How to make AI work for you in 2025

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming how we work and live. While some worry about its impact, others see exciting new opportunities to help with everyday tasks.

So, what AI tools should you be using in 2025 to stay ahead and make life a bit easier?

On today’s episode of The Briefing, we talked to Toby Walsh, UNSW Professor of Artificial Intelligence, to break down the best AI tools and how to start using them.

Walsh said AI offers solutions to all the “four D’s”- dirty, dull, difficult, and dangerous tasks.

“If you want to be one of the people who keeps a job, not the one who is replaced by AI, be an expert on using AI to lift your productivity,” he said.

For those new to AI, Walsh recommended starting with accessible, free tools to explore its potential. Two of his favourites include Notebook LM and Claude.

Notebook LM is ideal for simplifying complex documents and summarising information, while Claude is more like a reliable AI assistant, offering help with content creation and supporting professional work.

While AI is boosting productivity and creativity, Walsh the phenomenon of “hallucinations,” where AI generates incorrect or fabricated information.

He suggested looking out for overly confident but incorrect answers and verifying facts from credible sources.

“At the end of the day, the only way you can be sure is if you know the topic yourself…and check the primary sources where there are things that you haven’t seen before.”
