Aldi stores will open with reduced hours.

Some independently operated IGA stores may trade on Christmas Day, while convenience stores like 7-Eleven and major petrol stations will stay open nationwide.

Retail and liquor stores

Dining and fast food

The trading hours for restaurants and cafes during Christmas vary depending on the store. Most will be closed, while some may offer regular service or special Christmas menus. It’s best to check directly with your favourite spot.

For takeaway, most McDonald’s locations will stay open, along with select Hungry Jack’s. Many Domino’s and Pizza Hut stores will also serve pizzas.

Entertainment and other services

For those looking to spend the day out, several cinemas, zoos, and aquariums—including Melbourne Zoo and Sydney’s Taronga Zoo—will open with adjusted hours.

Emergency medical services, pharmacies, and after-hours clinics will be available for non-life-threatening conditions.

Banks will be closed on both Christmas and Boxing Day, with transactions resuming once branches reopen.
