Better access to mental health care will soon be available in Redlands following a pledge from the Palaszczuk government.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk along with Minister for Health and Mental Health Shannon Fentiman announced $150 million in funding to go to a new mental health facility at the Redland Hospital.
The hospital’s existing mental health hospital, which was increased by 20 beds, will be demolished after the new mental health facility is built.
The demolishment will free up a significant amount of hospital land, which will make space for Stage 2 of the hospital expansion.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the new facility is part of the government’s bid to make mental health care more accessible to Queenslanders.
“Better facilities mean better care delivered where it’s needed,” she said.
“It’s part of our plan to make sure Queenslanders get the health services they need closer to home and our frontline health workers have the tools they need to save lives.
“Our government will always prioritise the health of Queenslanders.”
Also to be announced during the Queensland state Budget is the $62 million Stage 1 expansion which will see 37 additional beds along with a new intensive care unit added to the hospital.
