A spokesperson for the Queensland Police Service confirmed that the man was released on bail on the same day of his arrest.
Detectives from the Gold Coast District Child Protection Investigation Unit initiated an investigation after receiving a report regarding a teacher at “an Ormeau school” the day before.
According to a statement issued by the Queensland Department of Education, the man had been suspended from his position after the exposure incident.
“As the matter is now before the courts, the department cannot provide further comment,” said in the statement.
Before the arrest, parents and caregivers were notified about the “alleged incident involving a staff member” at the school.
They received an email letter from the principal of Ormeau Woods State High School on September 11.
“I want to reassure you that we treat the safety and welfare of your children, our students, as our highest priority at all times,” the principal wrote.
The investigation is ongoing, and the teacher is scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on October 14.
