Gold Coast Father’s Life Support To Be Switched Off After Alleged Coward Punch

A Gold Coast father is set to have his life support turned off following an alleged one-punch attack in Sanctuary Cove. 

Michael Hayes was allegedly assaulted while leaving the Destino Wine Bar at Sanctuary Cove on Hope Island on Saturday evening. 

The 39-year-old mechanic was allegedly approached by a man wearing all black and then attacked.

Emergency services were called to the scene before transporting Mr Hayes to Gold Coast University Hospital. 

Mr Hayes has since been in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

The father two is believed to have regained consciousness momentarily before his conditioned worsened due to brain damage. 

The family and friends of Mr Hayes have attended the Gold Coast University Hospital to say their final goodbyes. 

Mr Hayes will be leaving behind two children aged 10 and four-years-old. 

Investigations into the incident are ongoing with police urging any witnesses to come forward or contact Policelink on 131 444.
