Today marks the funeral for William Swinbourne, who was tragically killed in a robbery gone wrong at Hope Island.
This week, Queensland Police have made a second arrest in connection to the tragic death of the 21-year-old, who was found with a single stab wound in the car park of Hope Island shopping centre on March 11.
Haedyn Patrick Zachary Rawson, a 23-year-old former private school student, was initially charged with murder shortly after the incident.
However, a comprehensive investigation, looking into CCTV footage, phones, and social media has led to the arrest of a 24-year-old man, who now faces charges of murder and robbery.
Detective Inspector Mark Mooney revealed that the investigation uncovered evidence suggesting that both suspects had planned to rob Mr Swinbourne of drugs.
“We’ve continued to conduct an extensive investigation of the matter, and we now have a much clearer picture of what occurred before, during, and after the incident,” Inspectpr Mooney said.
Police allege that Mr Rawson inflicted the fatal injury, while the second suspect was complicit in the planning of the robbery.
According to police, Mr Rawson was armed with a kitchen knife when he encountered Mr Swinbourne at the Boardwalk Tavern before the stabbing.
The two had reportedly met at a concert just days prior to the incident.
Mr. Swinbourne’s partner, Kaysie Tooth, expressed her grief online
“I love you to the moon and back, in this life and the next and every one after that.”
The investigation into the tragic event continues as both suspects face legal proceedings.
The 24-year-old is expected to appear before the Southport Magistrates Court later.
