Five high-ranking Finks OMCG members charged in Newcastle

Officers have charged five high-ranking Finks OMCG members and associates following an investigation into an alleged attempted aggravated break and enter in Newcastle last month.

About 1.50am on Sunday 23 February, Lake Macquarie Police were called to a home on Marian Place in Belmont North.

There were reports of a group of males attempting to force entry into the home.

Police attended and were told a number of unknown people had attempted to break into the address.

Witnesses also reported hearing a gunshot or gunshots.

A short time later, a 38-year-old man presented to hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his abdomen.

On Thursday 13 March officers arrested three men, aged 25, 26 and 29, at an address on the Hume Highway at Liverpool.

During a search of the unit, police located and seized Finks OMCG paraphernalia, mobile phones, and an Audi A5.

Yesterday officers arrested a 47-year-old man at an address in Moorebank. During a subsequent search of the home, police located a cannabis plant and slingshot.

Investigations continue into whether the man was involved in the attempted break and enter at Belmont North.

Yesterday officers also arrested a 38-year-old man at John Hunter Hospital.

He was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent-in company-not steal etc, affray, fail to comply digital evidence access order direction and participate criminal group contribute criminal.

Police will allege in court the men attempted in break in to the Belmont North home in what police believe was a targeted attack, before one of the men was shot.
