His uncle Michael Connolly says his worried family last saw Caleb six months ago, and are desperately waiting for any news.
“He was just Caleb. He was just the Caleb that we always knew he wasn’t affected by the war zone. He wasn’t affected by [it]. If he was, he kept it to himself.”
Foreign Minister Penny Wong says the government is providing assistance to them.
“We all condemn Russia’s illegal and immoral invasion, but it is not for Australians to travel to Ukraine to fight,” Wong said.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is urging other Australians not to go to the war zone.
The news of Caleb’s death comes just days after another Australian, Nick Parsons, who’d been volunteering for a bomb disposal charity in Ukraine was also killed.
Meanwhile, earlier this year Aussie Oscar Jenkins was also believed to have been killed, before the Australian Government got confirmation he was being held as a prisoner of war, after being captured by Russian forces.
