“Wow. I didn’t write anything down because I’m very superstitious and now I’m in a real pickle, so I’m going to do this very quickly,” Debicki said.
This marks Debicki’s first Emmy win, following a previous nomination for the same role in Season five, when the award went to Jennifer Coolidge for The White Lotus.
The Australian actress faced stiff competition from a talented pool of nominees, including Christine Baranski (The Gilded Age), Nicole Beharie (The Morning Show), Greta Lee (The Morning Show), Lesley Manville (The Crown), Karen Pittman (The Morning Show), and Holland Taylor (The Morning Show).
This victory adds to The Crown’s impressive Emmy tally, which now stands at 22.
The series previously earned accolades for Emma Corrin, who portrayed a younger Princess Diana in Season four.
Reflecting on her role, Debicki highlighted Diana’s spirit, saying, “She had an incredibly tragic life in many ways, but her vitality, humour, and joy were vivid.”
“Playing this part based on this unparalleled, incredible human being has been my great privilege,” she told the crowd. “It has been a gift. Thank you so much.”
