The young boy was meant to compete in a football competition, making the trip to Bali with his team ahead of their first international tournament.
Family friend of the Schuetz family, Bernice ‘BJ’ Ariasa has organised a GoFundMe to help assist with mounting medical bills.
The family’s insurance will cover the costs for Joshua’s return home but not the hospital bills.
Mr Ariasa said Joshua had “sustained a fractured skull and brain bleed and was taken to hospital.”
“To be looked at, his parents needed to transfer a $20,000AUD deposit on the spot, just half of the bill. He was then transferred to another hospital with a neurosurgeon and ICU unit, where they have to pay a further $10,000AUD deposit for a blood transfusion.
“So far, the bill is 60,000 AUD but climbing by the hour that he is in hospital here.”
A team of Australian doctors and nurses has travelled to Bali to help airlift Joshua back to the Perth Children’s Hospital.
