‘Disgraceful’: Chris Minns slams referral to corruption watchdog

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns has labelled his referral by a parliamentary committee to the corruption watchdog as “disgraceful”.

It’s understood the premier will be referred to the state’s ICAC over his relationship with one of the key figures behind the redevelopment of Rosehill Racecourse.

The inquiry is investigating the plan to turn the racecourse into a 25,000 home “mini city”, and will investigate Mr Minns over a meeting where the idea was first discussed.

Australian Turf Club is behind the unsolicited proposal to developers, and the inquiry will investigate Mr Minns’ relation with the club’s head of government relations, Steve McMahon.

It is now up to ICAC whether the matter is investigated. No decision had been made when this article was published.

“The allegations made tonight are completely unsubstantiated and based on no fact or evidence,” Mr Minns said in a statement.

“There is absolutely no evidence or even an attempt to quantify what rule, practice or procedure has been breached.

“This is an old-fashioned smear from a group of politicians opposed to changes at Rosehill.
