Detectives are investigating the mysterious death of Wendy Hansen, whose remains were discovered half-buried at a New South Wales beach.
Her body was found 800 kilometers away from her Queensland home, more than three months after she was last seen.
The 63-year-old was reported missing on February 29 after she failed to return and could not be contacted.
CCTV footage last captured her withdrawing cash from an ATM in Monto, about 170 kilometers west of Bundaberg.
Later that day, she was seen driving her silver 2007 two-door Mitsubishi Pajero on the Bruce Highway near Wild Horse Mountain on the Sunshine Coast around 2:30pm.
After this, Hansen disappeared without a trace.
It wasn’t until June 18 that her remains were found by a volunteer doing bushland regeneration work near Jetty Beach at Jordan Esplanade, Coffs Harbour.
Nearby, personal items including a backpack, silver earrings, hair clips, and a copy of Anne-Marie Conway’s novel Butterfly Summer were discovered, but her identity wasn’t immediately confirmed.
Further forensic analysis identified them as belonging to Wendy Hansen.
Hansen’s death is being treated as suspicious.
Homicide detectives are appealing for anyone with information, particularly regarding the location of her missing vehicle, to come forward.
Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000.
