Opposition leader Peter Dutton has revealed that further allegations have been brought forward against Senator David Van following accusations from Senator Lidia Thorpe of sexual misconduct.
Dutton told Today that the accuser came forward with further accusations prior to his decision to remove Van from the Liberal Party room.
“I raised another allegation with Senator Van but I’m not going to comment in relation to those matters otherwise,” he said.
“I made a decision yesterday based on all of the information that was available to me.”
The recent accusations follow bombshell claims made my Senator Lidia Thorpe under parliamentary privilege earlier in the week.
Liberal Senator Amanda Stoker also yesterday accused Van of touching her inappropriately at a 2020 social event.
Van issued a statement in response to the claims on Friday morning.
I am utterly shattered by the events of the past days and stunned that my good reputation can be so wantonly savaged without due process or accountability.
Senator David Van
“I will fully cooperate with whatever process Mr Dutton proposes to determine these matters as quickly and fairly as possible.
“While I understand the public interest is high, I will not be making any more public statements on the allegations until a proper examination of these claims is concluded.”
