At this stage, cyclone Alfred could be directly over Brisbane at around 7pm. The cyclone expected to cross over between Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast and Coolangatta in south Queensland.
People in the impact zone are being warned to prepare for “three natural disasters in one” according to the NSW SES. This includes torrential rain, destructive winds up to 160km an hour and dangerous storm surges which could cause flooding, expected.
Areas set to be impacted by Alfred are already experiencing damaging winds and large surf, with those conditions set to worsen today.
In response, hundreds of schools right across the affected area have been closed for the rest of the week. Flights have been cancelled as well as some public transport services.
Some major events have been canceled including the AFL season opener (Lions and Cats), Green Day concert, and the Suns vee Bombers clash.
