Cyclone Alfred re-intensifies, eyeing a Brisbane coastal crossing

Cyclone Alfred is set to make landfall on Thursday after the storm intensified back into a Category 2 overnight, with warnings it could impact heavily populated areas.

As of Monday morning March 3rd, the cyclone is about 465 kilometres north-east of Brisbane, and tracking south-east at 13 kilometres per hour.

It’s expected to make landfall anywhere between Bundaberg and northern NSW.

But National Production Services manager Matt Collopy from the Bureau says Brisbane is currently its bullseye.

“That central track does bring the system over Moreton Bay… within the spread of outcomes that, as I said, extends from Bundaberg down to northern NSW.”
