Canadian Rapper Tory Lanez Sentenced To Prison For Shooting Megan Thee Stallion

Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

Lanez, legally named Daystar Peterson, was found guilty in December 2022 of carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, assault with a semi-automatic handgun, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

The incident, the result of a heated argument between the two artists attacking each other’s careers, left Megan Thee Stallion with an injured foot.

Prosecutors pushed for Lanez to be sentenced to 13 years in prison, while the rapper’s defence team called for probation and a residential drug treatment program which would assist with his alcoholism.

In an interview with the Rolling Stone magazine, Megan Thee Stallion said she required surgery and spent four days in hospital before undergoing physical therapy to learn how to walk again.

A written statement by Megan Thee Stallion was read in court on Monday,

“Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace,” she said.

“Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”

Lanez spoke in court for the first time on Tuesday, saying he still cared for Megan Thee Stallion.

“I said some very immature things that I shouldn’t have said. I revealed some secrets I shouldn’t have revealed,” Lanez said during his statement.

The shooting occurred in July 2020, at Kylie Jenner’s home as the artists, a friend and Lanez’s bodyguard left the event.
