Artificial intelligence is no longer just a tool for setting alarms or adjusting emails— for some people, it is beginning to reshape how they experience love and intimacy.
As AI technology improves, questions also arise about whether future relationships will involve AI in new and unexpected ways.
Could people “cheat” on their human partners with AI?
In this episode of The Briefing, host Bension Siebert speaks with futurist Dr Ben Hamer about how AI could transform relationships by 2045.
They discussed the growing presence of AI chatbots, with some users reporting genuine emotional connections with these virtual companions.
Dr Hamer said the future of relationships could see more people engaging in non-traditional relationships with AI.
“As we start to see it move into the realm of AI sex bots… which are physical robots that people have sex with, but also which are being designed for emotional connection,” Dr Hamer said.
“I think that’s when you’ll start to see, in the future, this idea of an AI chatbot or sex-bot being unfaithful,” he said.
While some view AI companionship as beneficial, especially for introverted individuals, there is concern that relying on AI could diminish human interaction.
“I think that it’s good that we have it there as an avenue; I just don’t think we want to naturally over-rely on it, or that people will start to withdraw from face-to-face human connection and favour AI instead.”
