Calls For ASIO To Name Former Politician Accused Of Being Foreign Spy

Former Treasurer Joe Hockey is calling for ASIO to publicly identify of a former politician accused of being a foreign spy.

ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess has revealed that a former member of Parliament or senator was recruited by foreign intelligence.

It was reported the former politician also attempted to introduce the operatives to a prime minister’s family member.

Joe Hockey once worked as Australia’s US ambassador and said withholding a name creates distrust amongst Australia’s allies.

“If someone has been a traitor, I can’t think of a more significant issue when it comes to national security,” Hockey said.

He said the news casts a shadow over all former and current Australian politicians until the person is named.
