According to police accounts, the 49-year-old man, who was not a resident of the complex, had been going door-to-door aggressively, seeking items from various units within the complex.

The situation escalated when the man knocked on the door of the alleged victim, a 74-year-old resident, and his partner.

A disagreement happened not long after the victim answered the door before he was allegedly lifted and thrown head-first off the balcony, plummeting 3.5 meters to the concrete below.

Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene and rushed the elderly man to the hospital.

Tragically, despite medical efforts, he passed away due to his injuries later on Sunday.

Police arrested the 49-year-old shortly after the incident at a nearby unit. He has been charged with one count of murder and is scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

Queensland Police Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham described the alleged attack as “unprovoked, callous, and heartless”.

As investigations into the incident continue, law enforcement officials are also interviewing residents of the housing block to gather further information and details.
