The pioneering frontman of Black Sabbath, born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham in 1948, co-founded the rock band in 1968.
The group helped shape the heavy metal genre with classic albums like Paranoid and Master of Reality.
Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019, Osbourne continued performing.
Only weeks before his death, he joined Black Sabbath for a final, star‑studded farewell concert at Villa Park in Birmingham, supported by Metallica, Guns N’ Roses and more.
The event raised significant funds for charity.
He sold over 100 million records across his career, was twice inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (with Sabbath in 2006 and solo in 2024).
Tributes flooded in from musicians worldwide, with Elton John calling him a “true legend” and Black Sabbath simply stating, “Ozzy Forever”.
“He was a dear friend and a huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods – a true legend. He was also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. I will miss him dearly.”
