Baby Ronan was found with severe head injuries and other internal injuries, passing away as a result of those two days later, on June 9.
Police focused their investigation on a two-day period where Ronan was left in the care of a family friend.
Ronan’s father was unable to rouse his son so called the South Australia Ambulance Service which took him to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital at about 6pm on the night of June 7.
It will be alleged the arrested man inflicted the injuries to Ronan while in his care on the afternoon of June 7, prior to returning him to his father.
Despite the severity of the injuries, Det Insp Mark McEachern last week said Ronan’s injuries would not have been obvious to his father.
“Ronan’s been returned home, apparently asleep. We suspect he sustained injuries prior to that,” McEachern said.
“We have been provided with an explanation of how Ronan’s injuries occurred. We’re not satisfied with the explanation that’s been given to us.”
