Audrey Griffin: Hundreds rally after alleged murder of teen

Her body was found in a creek in late March after she’d been on a night out with friends.

A 53-year-old man, Adrian Torrens, was later charged with her murder but died in custody before facing trial.

Heavy rain didn’t turn away protesters who marched across the Central Coast yesterday, many with signs, saying more needed to be done to keep women safe, and “enough is enough.”

One protester called out ‘casual misogyny’, saying it shapes future generations, while others argued that the government’s not doing enough to tackle the nationwide crisis.

Audrey Griffin is the 23rd woman killed by violence in Australia, according to Australian Femicide Watch, a project which tracks the number of killings.

However since Audrey’s death, that number’s risen again, to 24 in just the first four months of the year.

Meanwhile, last year 103 women were killed in violent crimes in Australia.
