Amy Shark Wants Us To Support Aussie Music And Head To Gigs

It was 2016 when Amy Shark burst onto the music scene having released her 7x platinum single, ‘Adore’. Fast forward to today, Shark is one of Australia’s biggest names in pop music.

Shark’s rise to fame may seem to happen overnight, but that is far from the truth. It took even changing her stage name to Amy Shark in 2013 to set herself up for later success.

Now, Shark’s career has truly taken off. She has won multiple ARIA Awards and worked with the likes of Ed Sheeran and Keith Urban.

Listen to Amy Shark on The Weekend Briefing here:

Shark’s new album, Sunday Sadness, features a dream lineup of producers and artists, including Kid Harpoon, who has produced and co-written with Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus.

It also features production credits from Matt Corby, Joel Little, Dann Hume, Jon Hume, Sam DeJong and Aaron Rubin – all names that music fans and gurus will recognise immediately.

In this episode of The Weekend Briefing, Shark joins Helen Smith to explain how she thinks the live music scene has changed over the last decade and who she ran into backstage while performing on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

Shark described how sad it is for musicians to see festivals and gigs being cancelled in Australia.

“You put all this work into a record, and you just want to go play it… that’s our job, like that’s the bread and butter,” she said.

“So it’s really important for Australians to back Aussie music. It doesn’t matter if it’s at an arena or if it’s down at the local pub.

“It’s especially [important] while we’re going through this weird time where festivals are having trouble standing up. It really sucks.

“I thought the Big Day Out would always be around, and then that’s not here. I guess we always have to be looking forward, and hopefully, someone’s working the next thing.”

Amy Shark will head on The Sadness Tour this October and November. You can find out when Shark is touring a city near you and buy tickets here.
