An investigation into supermarket giants by Australia’s consumer watchdog has grown from dodgy discounts to accusations of land hoarding, putting Coles and Woolies in the spotlight.
The federal government is giving the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) $30 million to continue their investigation.

Last week we heard the ACCC is suing Coles and Woolworths for allegedly raising prices before lowering them to create a ‘prices are down’ effect.
Now the companies are being investigated for allegedly land hoarding to snuff out competitors.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers said it shouldn’t be impacting checkout totals for families.
“We don’t want to see ordinary Australians and families and pensioners being taken for a ride by the supermarkets,” Chalmers said.
