This move comes from the airline’s successful direct flight between Melbourne and Busselton Margaret River, starting in April 2022.
Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti, said the government was very excited to welcome another direct link into WA.
“This announcement comes off the back of the South West being named the fastest-growing regional destination in the country by the Tourism & Transport Forum, so we’re expecting this to be a popular flight amongst travellers from the eastern states,” Ms Saffioti said.
The new Sydney route is expected to be a game-changer, providing more than 50,000 seats in its first year alone.
This includes catering to overseas travellers who wish to access the renowned food and wine region without a stopover in Perth.
Jetstar’s new Sydney flight, set to go on sale at 8 am WST today, offers competitive fares at $109.
Regional Development Don Punch highlighted the positive impact on tourism operators and small businesses.
“The introduction of these direct flights from Sydney provides a welcome boost to tourism operators and small businesses in our spectacular South West region,” he said.
“This comes after significant WA Government support to secure direct flights between Busselton and Melbourne last year, which have unlocked new opportunities for investment and job creation.”
