14-Year-Old Suspect In Apalachee High School Mass Shooting To Be Charged As An Adult

The 14-year-old suspect in the Apalachee High School mass shooting, identified as Colt Gray, is set to be charged with murder and prosecuted as an adult.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Director Chris Hosey confirmed this during a news conference.

The shooting took place on 4 September 2024, leaving two teachers and two students dead, with nine others hospitalised.

Students at the high school in Winder, Georgia, scrambled to safety as officers swarmed the campus, and parents rushed to locate their children. The school was placed on lockdown, with students being evacuated to the football stadium.

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith described the tragic incident as “an evil thing” during an earlier briefing.

The violence erupted during school hours, with one student, Jacob King, recounting hearing 10 shots in his classroom before officers intervened.

The White House has been briefed on the shooting, and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed his support for Barrow County.

“This is everybody’s worst nightmare, and I want to offer my sincere condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and to those injured during this tragic time.”
