Madge Maguire Responds To Jarome Luai’s Near Drowning

Jarome Luai almost drowned at UrbnSurf in Sydney Olympic Park during a State of Origin recovery session. Here’s what the blue’s coach Madge Maguire had to say about his players’ brush with death.

Blue’s player Jarome Luai had to be rescued from a wave pool at a NSW State of Origin recovery session. Joking that his “life flashed before his eyes.”

“I almost died out there, so grateful to be alive,” Jarome says.

“There’s no beaches at Penrith, so we don’t get much practice out there. I thought I would try my luck, but it didn’t go well.”

NSW Coach Michael ‘Madge’ Maguire speaks with Hughesy, Ed and Erin on Jarome’s near drowning accident.

“We worked out yesterday that we’re Rugby league players not swimmers,” Maguire says.
