Co-Author of The Australian Autism Handbook Benison O’Reilly joins Bianca, Ben and Lakey to give her tips on parenting a child with Autism.
Benison’s son Sam has autism, and when the book was first written he was a little kid, now he is 22. The book has been updated with the latest information over the years and she says, “We’ve learnt a lot along the way”. Benison says that the biggest change over the years is society, with society ‘accepting’ autism and how the month of April used to be called “Autism Acceptance Month which means like that we were sort of tolerating autism”.
Benison says a lot of people say “oh I could never do what you are doing” not knowing how much that would affect someone with those words.
