The world collectively put it’s arms around music icon Céline Dion off the back of her Prime Video documentary I Am: Céline Dion when it dropped recently. The singer gave us an honest, inside look into her life as she tries to push on after her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome – a condition that affects the brain and nervous system.
Then, we all cried with joy as Céline made her first singing appearance in 4 years at the 2024 Paris Olympics, belting out a song by Édith Piaf underneath the Eiffel Tower.
Meanwhile in Australia, we love nothing more than a good Céline sing along – after all, she is mates with out mate, Johnny Farnham.
Now, Sydney is set to present the iconic musical Titanique, which is an incredibly light-hearted, laughter filled ode to the one and only Céline and the blockbuster movie Titanic.
Producers Michael Cassel and Eva Price today confirmed the ‘kooky krazy’ cast who will set sail aboard the award-winning splash hit TITANIQUE when it makes its Australian premiere exclusively in Sydney at The Grand Electric from 12 September 2024.
Inserting herself directly in the narrative as Céline Dion is music theatre and cabaret legend Marney McQueen who will share her very short, 90-minute story of her journey on the Titanic. Drew Weston will play the dreamer Jack opposite Georgina Hopson as the sweet ingenue Rose while Australian stage and screen icon Matt Lee plays Victor Garber.
Host of The Streaming Service podcast Justin Hill caught up with Matt who revealed what he wants Aussies to take away when they see the show, “I want them to laugh… for that 90 minutes you’re sitting in the theatre, all of your troubles get left at the door and you can just get taken on this campy, silly ode to Céline”.
“We are all just going to get on stage and have a really good time”.
Sailing on fierce powerhouse voices in show-stopping performances of such hits as “My Heart Will Go On,” “All By Myself”, and “To Love You More” – backed by the unparalleled energy of a full live band – Titanique is a one-of-a-kind theatrical voyage bursting with nostalgia, heart, and campy chaos!
