During his Australian comedy tour, US actor and comedian Rob Schneider revealed to the Carrie & Tommy Show that he’s been offered a role in the much anticipated sequel, Happy Gilmore 2.
Originally released in 1996, Happy Gilmore tells the story of an unsuccessful ice hockey player (Adam Sandler) who discovers a newfound talent for golf, and competes in a golfing tournament to save his grandmother’s home from foreclosure. Since its debut, fans have expressed their desire for a sequel, and it’s one that even Carrie Bickmore couldn’t resist asking Rob Schneider about:
“I’ve gotta ask about Happy Gilmore 2.. is that happening?”
The Deuce Bigalow actor confirmed that he received a call from friend and screenwriter, Adam Sandler, who offered him a role on the upcoming sequel: “I’ll find something for you, you’ll find out”. Without knowing what his role will entail, Schneider is excited to be working alongside his friend once again, as the two have collaborated on over a dozen film projects such as, Waterboy, Big Daddy, Little Nicky, The Hot Chick, and even 50 First Dates.
Speaking on 50 First Dates, Schneider reflected on his time working alongside actress Drew Barrymore, more specifically on the hilarious scene which saw the E.T actress hitting the comedian over the head with a baseball bat:
“The next thing you know, it was in the movie.. it was never in the script”
The scene originally called for the actors to remain in position when getting into a scuffle, however, upon finding out that the shoot location was taking place on the same grounds where Steven Spielberg shot Jurassic Park, Schneider couldn’t help but recreate the iconic ‘running of the dinosaurs’ scene.
