The Australian version of The Office premiered last week on Amazon Prime, marking the 13th adaptation in the television franchise. Now, the series’ lead Felicity Ward has sat down with Wil Anderson on Everyone Relax to unpack how she approached such a massive role, and her attitude towards the show’s reception.
“I read it and went, ‘that is me with no self awareness’,” Felicity told Wil on the latest TOFOP with Friends episode of his Everyone Relax podcast.
Discussing the topic of being constantly asked about the pressure of the role and criticism, Felicity made it clear the only pressure put on her came from the media:
“I’m not on the Internet apart from ‘people you follow’ on Instagram. That’s the only comments that I read. So what I’m getting [with the] pressure is my mum calling up and saying, ‘I’m really proud of you’.”
Addressing last month’s backlash following the release of the show’s first trailer, Felicity pointed out the public’s fascination with waiting for her response.
“There are some people that are so excited about like, ‘is she gonna cry’ or ‘has she taken this really badly?’”
