The world has changed a lot in 20 years and Hamish & Andy have been broadcasting through all of it. In their new podcast series, The Remembering Project, the boys are digging into their extensive archive to see what they can remember (or rather forget…)
Hamish and Andy look at their notes from over 2,500 shows, across two decades, to try and remember what was going on behind the scenes as well as on air.
In episode one the pair describe a mishap on air that Hamish described as:
“Easily our favourite moment, I mean it’s just, I don’t want to build it up, but it just, it probably was one of the first moments where we couldn’t stop laughing.”
The month was August, the year 2008. In a chopstick weightlifting challenge Hamish was crowned the winner, to celebrate, a cheering sound effect was meant to play.
“That word, cheers, is so important in this because I had written down, you know, cheers. Giggling Ben had gone to the computer, typed in cheers very fast, and then what happens, happens.” Said Hamish
Instead, the theme song for the iconic 80’s sitcom ‘Cheers’ played, causing chaos and uncontrollable laughter from Hamish and Andy.
You can’t force a moment like that. But it needs to happen and you realise you’re live on air and can’t stop laughing. Hamish said.
Listen to the hilarious on-air moment!
