Kansas City Chiefs superfan “ChiefsAholic,” real name Xaviar Michael Babudar, was arrested and accused of robbing the Tulsa Teachers Federal Credit Union at gunpoint. When authorities took him into custody, police noticed his Chiefs tattoos and asked if he was a fan – little realising they had captured one of the team’s most recognisable supporters.
In the years leading up to his arrest, ChiefsAholic had gained impressive popularity on social media as a die-hard fan who would post content, run giveaways, and attend home and away games dressed as a wolf in Chiefs merchandise. His signature costume and enthusiastic presence made him something of a celebrity in Chiefs Kingdom.
Being a superfan can be an expensive hobby – especially one who travels to every game – and his followers began to wonder how he could afford this lavish lifestyle. The answer was far more shocking than anyone anticipated: he’d stolen close to £850,000 from 11 banks across 7 US states.
In September of last year, the fan behind the wolf mask was sentenced to 17 years and 6 months without parole. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this case, which also involves extensive gambling, money laundering, and even earned Babudar a place on the FBI’s Most Wanted list after he went on the run.
